The second edition of the contemporary art biennial Grandeur Nature will take place this summer in the historic gardens and parklands of the Château de Fontainebleau. Among the forty works on view across the 130-hectare domain, artists Pablo Reinoso and Philippe Ramette present large-scale outdoor installations that explore space, perception, and the viewer’s relationship with the natural environment.
On the Grand Parterre, Pablo Reinoso’s Révolution végétale – D’après Léonard (2022) is a monumental steel sculpture inspired by the double-helix structure of DNA and the famous double-spiral staircase of the Château de Chambord. The organic, spiraling form invites the viewer to look upward, transforming a classical architectural motif into a symbol of living growth and dynamic movement.
In the Jardin Anglais and on the Grand Parterre, Philippe Ramette presents three sculptural works that play with gravity, absurdity, and poetic displacement: Point de vue (1994), Canon à parole (2001), and Éloge de l’envol (2023). Ramette’s installations offer a contemplative yet subtly humorous perspective on the landscape, inviting moments of introspection and imaginative escape.
The exhibition is part of Grandeur Nature II. L’esprit de la forêt, a major public art event organized by the Château de Fontainebleau, featuring works by 25 contemporary artists whose practices engage with nature, ecology, and the landscape.
