Filmmaker and visual artist Cao Guimarães returns to his hometown with the exhibition ‘Um grão de domingo’, curated by Luisa Duarte and Lucas Alberto at the Gallery of the BH Minas Cultural Center in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
The selection of works exhibited in ‘Um grão de domingo’ traces a historical overview of Cao Guimarães’ career, with some of his best-known works, such as Gambiarra – with an important addition – and Plano de Voo. The exhibition also features three new works: Guardião do Tempo, Rolezinho and Clinamen. The denominator of all of them, of course, is time – repetition, observation and constant movement are recurring themes.
‘We set out from a poetic territory in an attempt to bring a gaze that looks away from the spectacular,’ says Cao. For him, the show brings experimentation with time and ‘weaves a dilated temporality’. Slower, less useful time is therefore the guiding thread of the exhibition.
