Takis – Tate Modern, London, 2019

Curated by Guy Brett, Michael Wellen and Helen O’Malley

July 3 – October 27, 2019

The largest exhibition of Takis’s work ever held in the UK, the exhibition at Tate Modern brought together over 70 works, including a rarely-seen Magnetic Fields installation, a gallery dedicated to a sequence of Takis’ Musicals, musical devices generating resonant and random sounds, and forests of Takis’ pivotal Signals.

The film realized by Tate Modern guides us through this comprehensive exhibition and visits the artist in his home and studio in Athens – Takis Foundation, and also features the encounter between Guy Brett and Takis, after the decades of their friendship and artistic collaboration.

“Takis” was organised by Tate Modern in collaboration with the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona and the Museum of Cycladic Art, Athens. The exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue including specially commissioned colour photography and new critical essays.
