Xippas Geneva is pleased to invite you to the inauguration of the Swiss artist Marie José Burki’s video installation Exposure: Figures of Speech at the Pop-Up at the Center Commercial Eaux-Vives in Geneva.
Photography, neon, text and video are the preferred media used by Marie José Burki. Using visual devices, her work focuses on creating constantly shifting relationships between static and moving images, which ceaselessly interrogate our perceptions of reality in a world saturated with images.
Unveiled for the first time on this scale and as a whole, Marie José Burki explores the nature of others through the gaze that humans have on animals, in particular on birds.
The art of portraiture is unique to man, because he alone among living beings has a face, the place of choice for human beings. Exposure: Figures of Speech takes the gamble portraying birds, capturing in a face to face look the «bird’s face ».
